Alano P. Baez – Playwright / Performer

Alano P. Baez was born in Ponce, Puerto Rico and raised in New York’s East Harlem and the Bronx. He is an anti-corporate underground Hip Hop emcee, political protest singer, playwright, actor, poet, graffiti artist, community activist and agitator.

He is the former lead singer of the punk band Ricanstruction, emcee of Hip Hop duo X-Vandals, and current lead singer for the Latin soul outfit known as Abrazos Army. Alano has released several music albums and his first collection of poetry, Last of the Po Ricans y Otros Afro Artifacts was published in 2014.

As an actor, Alano starred in (and co-wrote) the award-winning feature film Machetero. In 2017 his play Don’t Take Me Alive! was featured in the Downtown Urban Arts Festival at New York’s prestigious Cherry Lane Theatre.

Alano teaches “resistance writing” to those identified as the homeless at the Homeless Organizing Academy in Bronx, New York.
